CROSS-REFERENCE TO UNITED STATES article CROWNING ON THE COVE OF BATTLEFIELD ISLAND, N.Y. — The remains of a cayfish were found on the edge of the town of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, on Friday, marking the first discovery of the creature since the first reported death in the area in the 1940s.
The carcass of a young cay-fish, which was about 6 feet long, was found by a fisherman along the shoreline, said James E. Smith, a county coroner’s official who was at the scene.
The fish, which had been on the sand, was covered with mud and grass, he said.
Smith said the coroner’s office will release a preliminary autopsy report on the fish Friday.
