In a new video, ghost crickets are served with mashed potatoes, mashed potatoes and gravy.
“The crickets were actually quite delicious,” said Matt Gannon, owner of Crayfish & Co. in Niles, Ohio.
“I really liked them.”
The video was posted to YouTube by YouTube user Matthew Gannon.
The video shows the crickets eating the mashed potatoes before a fried chicken pot pie is placed over the top.
The crickets have been featured in recipes from restaurants including Crayhouse and Sausage and Eggs.
Gannon says the crayfishes are often sold as a side dish, or used to make an appetizer.
The fried chicken is usually topped with bacon, gravy, or other condiments.
It’s typically served with a side of mashed potatoes.
In the video, Gannon is shown cutting up the crays with a knife and grilling them.
“When you’re eating crickets in a pot, it’s kind of like cooking something you’re not used to,” Gannon said.
“You just don’t know what you’re going to get.”
Gannon served the crayed crickets at his restaurant and said it was a big hit with his customers.
“It’s kind in the family,” he said.
Some of the videos Gannon posted have been viewed more than 5 million times, with more than 8,000 comments.
A recent review from the food website FoodNavigator found craydans were rated “as a quality option” in restaurants in the state of Ohio.
The review also said the croutons were “satisfying.”
The Ohio Department of Agriculture says the state doesn’t have any specific regulations on craycans, but that it does “take these reports very seriously and works with the industry to ensure that consumers are protected.”
Golan’s restaurant is located at 1750 N. Michigan Ave., in Novesay.
It closed last year after the restaurant went under, according to a message on the restaurant’s Facebook page.
A spokesperson for Crayfish & Co., which Gannon co-owns, said the restaurant would continue to serve the crudcrack cray in a future menu.
“We hope to open a second location soon, and will do all we can to make it a success,” the message said.
